TEAM EMPIRE
Huge weekend for Empire Basketball! This past weekend, seven of our teams traveled to Ardsley, NY and competed in the Zero Gravity Fall Opener. With only a few practices, our athletes were thrown into the fire! We are incredibly proud of not only the way they performed, but the way they handled theirselves on the court. Overall, Empire finished the weekend with a winning record.
Our first program chip goes to Coach Terrance Murchie and his sixth grade squad! Well done boys!

Both our 6th Grade boys team and our 8th Grade boys teams played at Nassau Coliseum this past Friday Night! We are extremely thankful for this awesome opportunity for our athletes!

TOP 100
We're proud to announce Empire Youth Athletics has been selected as the Head Trainers for the 2019 Top 100 Showcase. The Top 100 Showcase will take place on Saturday, September 21st at LuHi and is open to all male athletes in the tristate area in grades 8-12.
The day will run from 11AM-4 PM and will consist of NBA Combine testing, a Top 20 All-Star game, and NCAA seminar and skills training. In addition there will be media and scouting services present and D2 and D3 coaches will be assisting with on floor training and coaching!
NBA STRENGTH
This past week, Rahsaan Robinson, NBA G-League, Brooklyn Nets Head Strength Coach came to speak to our athletes. Coach Robinson spoke to the athletes about what it takes to play at a high level and he also put our athletes through one of his dynamic warmups!

Big thanks to Coach Mike McSloy, Head Coach of St. Joseph's College (LI) for coming down to our HS Mini-Camp this past week. Coach put our athletes through some drills and spoke to them about what he looks for in recruits!

GRIND SESSION
Empire's Boys Director, Derek Klein designed his very own "Grind Session". Coach Derek worked with over 600 campers this summer.
​
The Grind Session is a high energy and high skill developmental session that works on all parts of the game! Players go through stations of dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and more!
WORLD CAMP
Coach Derek Klein was selected to participate in the 2019 IYF International Youth Fellowship as the Boys Basketball Director!
​
International Youth Fellowship is a global non-profit organization dedicated to spiritual, emotional, and intellectual grown! There are over 40 branches across the US and Canada!

SPECIAL GUEST
Former High-School Athlete, Tyson Etienne visited our clinic to speak with our Empire Athletes about practicing good habits and having a healthy mindset. Tyson reminded the kids to add a drop in the bucket each time they enter the gym and also reminded them to be thankful for having parents/family who are willing to make sacrifices to make them better! Tyson will play basketball next year at Wichita State and is projected to be an NBA prospect.
COLLEGE/PRO RUNS
Empire has recently started offering a College/Pro workout. Once a week, college athletes as well as athletes who are preparing to play overseas as well as in the NBA, gather in our gym. Coach Derek, Coach Andrew, Coach Terrance, and Coach Hector put the group through ball handling drills, reactionary drills, and structured live play.
​
Coaches hold players to high standards, demand work, and preach community, culture, and discipline. Coach Derek promotes an uplifting atmosphere and encourages athletes to get themselves and others better for the next level of play.
MINI-CAMP
We still have TWO weeks left of our Summer Mini-Camps!
We’re heading into week 8 and we’ve now worked on the following: finishing at the basket, ball handling/attack moves, form shooting, attacking out of triple threat, moving without the ball, and shooting in high pressure situations.

Each clinic consists of live play with skill application.

Last week we had NBA prospect, Justin Wright-Foreman in our gym. Justin came to workout with our coaches and stayed to work with our student-athletes at our Thursday night clinic. Justin spoke to our student-athletes about what it takes to play at the next level and what it means to be a part of something bigger than basketball. We are extremely thankful for his time and wisdom as he gears up for the NBA DRAFT!

INTERNATIONAL
This past week, our Girls Director, Christina Raiti brought a group of 50 kids to Greece with SLAA, a Greek Academy based out of the NY area. Coach Christina coached a group of 7-10th grade girls who competed at the highest level Greece has to offer. The team finished 4-1 and Coach was able to spend time learning from Greek coaches, trainers, and players. She was able to attend training and skill sessions where she not only learned about the European game, but sharpened her skill set with new skill development techniques!
EMPIRE VOLUNTEER
On April 12th, Junior Andre Curbelo competed in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon. The event was an incredible honor/opportunity for Andre, as he was one of 24 players selected to participate. Andre represented his native country, Puerto Rico and was one of the 12 members on the World Team. The game was played at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. This game is a highly recognized event and is considered to be one of the top premier high school basketball events in the country! Andre was one of the youngest players in game and finished playing 16 minutes with 4 points as well as 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. We are so thankful to have Andre volunteer his time and work with our Empire athletes! What a great role model!
